Digital slr basic training

A half day one-to one beginners course in West London. The course provides a totally geek-free approach to basic digital and creative technique including camera function, Shooting, image download, photoshop editing, image storage and printing.

The approximately four hour programme can be based from either your home or at John’s in Ealing. Course days are Monday to Friday.

First segment of up to one hour is spent handling the dslr camera, learning the functions and controls, and the miniscule amount of essential theory about exposure and focus. Every aspect is covered in the bound course notes which are kept by the student.

Shooting practice then follows, either out and about at maybe Kew Gardens, by the River Thames at Kew, or at your own home if family portraiture is your interest. During this segment you will be advised on subject choice, camera position use of available light, depth of focus and composition while keeping a sharp eye on the camera settings.

The final hour is back to base to learn the basics of post-shoot image processing using Photoshop elements or Photoshop CS2 followed by colour and black and white printing techniques using the images you shot earlier.

If possible do the course before buying your first dslr. We use Nikon D3000s one of the cheapest cameras around, they produce great results even at a3 size, and the money you could save would pay for your tuition!

Cameras, lenses, laptop, software, portable inkjet printer and lashings of ink and paper are all included. Telephone and email support continue for one month from the course.

The cost is £145 is for one-to-one instruction, there is a surcharge of £35 for a second person (total of £90 per person).

A 2 hour follow up session is available for existing clients to bring along their images to develop their photoshop and printing skills further. These one-to-one sessions are normally at Ealing during the evening and cost £70.00 for one or £85.00 for two people.
